Nottingham has no shortage of car supermarkets, and they are all built the same way: a lot of cars, a lot of staff, and a price that carries both.

What suits a car that lives on a city street
If the car is going to be parked on the road rather than on a drive, that changes what is sensible. Something small enough to get into a gap. Cheap enough that a scuffed bumper is an annoyance rather than a disaster. Common enough that parts are on a shelf rather than on order from Europe for a fortnight.
That is most of what we carry: hatchbacks and small MPVs between about £1,300 and £4,500, rather than anything that needs looking after.
The insurance point nobody mentions
A Nottingham postcode costs more to insure than a Derbyshire one, and on a car worth two or three thousand pounds the insurance can be the bigger number. Get a quote on the exact car before you commit, not on something similar. It is five minutes and it occasionally changes which car you buy.
